BFS Dive Team successfully retrieves heavy anchors moved by ice

The SUNY Oneonta BFS Volunteer Dive Team, led by Lt Col Paul Lord, executed a 131’ (40 m) dive in the evening of 7 June 2025 to attach a 600# (272 kg) lift bag to the four entangled anchors for the Continuous Lake Monitoring Buoy (CLMB) (please see an earlier post and page 5 of Our Glimmerglass Spring 2025 Newsletter and for details). The team then moved them into 25’ (7.6 m) of water and returned the following morning to take the anchors off their cables; a team member spent the night on the boat to ensure safety while being moored offshore. The divers and tenders pulled the anchors aboard the Anodontoides and returned to the BFS Boathouse to disentangle the four 200’ (61 m) cables.

The new location for the CLMB is 42°46’13.1″N 74°53’27.0″W; approximately 989 ft (301 m) NNE of the old location (42°46’13.1″N 74°53’27.0″W).
